Our lawyers are currently filing claims on behalf of injured patients in the Xarelto lawsuit. Prescribed as a medication to minimize the risk of strokes and blood clots, Xarelto is one of the class of drugs called anticoagulants. The medication may also increase the chances of uncontrollable bleeding since it behaves as a blood thinner. Most blood thinners are used to prevent blood clots that often hamper the flow of blood to vital organs. But by doing so they increase the risks that can lead to hospitalization. In some instances, drugs such as Xarelto can lead to death.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Xarelto in July 2011 as a drug for those undergoing knee and hip replacement surgery. Later that year in November, Xarelto was also approved to alleviate the impact of atrial fibrillation, also know as AF. The drug was used to minimize the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and approval of the drug for these conditions were approved by the FDA in 2012. Recently though, Xarelto has been the subject of lawsuits filed over side effects experienced by patients that took it.

Side Effects from Xarelto

As stated earlier, it has been shown that Xarelto can cause uncontrollable bleeding in some patients. It can also cause other side effects such as abnormal functions in the liver and the reduction of platelet levels. When this occurs near vital organs such as the liver, kidneys or lungs, the effects can cause these organs to not function properly thereby leading to serious medical conditions. Xarelto has other side effects that can impact women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Studies have shown that Xarelto should be used with extreme caution with certain other medications such as Kaletra, Norvir and even aspirin.

Clinical Studies Relating to Xarelto Side Effects

The benefits of Xarelto in reducing blood clots in patients who had hip or knee replacement surgery was significant compared to other drugs such as Levenox according to a clinical study that had 9,500 test subjects. Another study conducted in 2011, which compared another drug, Warfarin, to Xarelto, showed that Xarelto patients had less chances of bleeding near the brain. The study by the New England Journal of Medicine still indicated that the Xarelto patients overall risk of bleeding was still similar to the Warfarin patients. The parent company of Xarelto, Johnson and Johnson and Bayer could not convince the FDA to approve their claim that their drug was more effective than Warfarin.

Possibility of Xarelto Lawsuits

Since Xarelto is similar to other blood thinning drugs such as Pradaxa, which is currently undergoing numerous lawsuits, the chances of lawsuits against Xarelto are possible. Our firm is requesting that any patients or family members of patients that have suffered complications from Xarelto to contact our experienced legal staff to review your case. We are ready to assist you and your family in receiving compensation for injuries that may have resulted from Xarelto side effects.

Lawsuits Filed over Xarelto Side Effects – Do You Have A Claim?

Our attorneys are currently in the process of filing lawsuits against the makers of Xarelto (rivaroxaban), a blood thinner with serious side effects. The manufacturers of Xarelto have failed to ensure the drug is safe to use and may be liable for compensation. If you or loved on used Xarelto and suffered a serious bleeding event, you may be entitled to compensation from Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

Xarelto is alleged to be more harmful than other blood thinners because there is no antidote to reduce the effects of blood thinning in patients who bleed excessively. The blood thinning effects of traditional anticoagulants, such as Warfarin, can typically be reversed by the administration of vitamin K; however, vitamin K is not effective for Xarelto patients. Because there is no antidote, irreversible bleeding problems, leading to cerebral or gastrointestinal hemorrhaging and even death.

In addition, it is alleged that Bayer and Janssen did not act responsibly in creating and marketing Xarelto. Patients did not have proper warning of the risks, and doctors and medical staff were not made aware of how to stabilize a patient suffering a bleeding event. Xarelto is still being marketed as safe even though it is associated with major bleeding complications.

Our attorneys are seeking various forms of compensation on behalf of plaintiffs who have suffered a serious bleeding event or have a loved one who was harmed by taking Xarelto. We believe Bayer and Janssen’s Pharmaceuticals should be held responsible for the following forms of compensation:

  • past medical bills
  • future medical bills
  • pain and suffering
  • lost income
  • funeral expense

The plaintiffs also seek punitive damages, which would punish Bayer and Janssen for selling an ineffective and dangerous drug.
